"One door away from Heaven,
We live each day and hour.
One door away from Heaven,
But it lies beyond our power
To open the door to Heaven
And enter when we choose.
One door away from heaven,
And the key is ours to lose.
One door away from heaven,
But, oh, the entry dues."
-Dean Koontz
One Door Away From Heaven is, I believe, a magnificent book written by a terrific author; Dean Koontz. My older brother gave it to me as a Christmas present a few years ago. In my experience, there are few books that i myself find impossible to set down, however this was definately one. I was finally able to set it down but only after i had finished it four days later. I was hooked. I am by no means a professional book reviewer or critic, but to me the book seemed to be a story about human nature and how it can, depending on the nature of the person involved, save other lives. In this story there are 9 main characters who all, in one way or another, save each other.
Curtis, a young boy whose parents are killed in the beginning of the book, is being hunted by some unknown adversaries. Eventually he runs into two twin holloywood starletts, Polly and Cass, who pick him and his newly acquired dog, Old Yeller, up and help them escape the "bad guys".
Micky, an attractive and hopelessly lost young woman, goes to stay with her Aunt Gen when her reckless lifestyle leaves her with no place to stay. Leilani, along with her drug addicted mother and her mothers new husband, move into the trailer next to Micky and Aunt Gen.
Noah is a private detective who is hired by a rich congressman's wife, Constance Veronica Tavenall, to follow the congressman, thus discovering that the congressman had another lover on the side.
Throughout the book, the main characters struggle through their troubles, eventually meeting up at the end opf the book.
So what will you find behind the door that is one door away from heaven? At the very end we finally discover the answer to the question posed throughout the book.
"If your heart is closed, then you will find behind the door nothing to light your way. But if your heart is open, you will find behind the door people who, like you, are searching, and you will find the right door together with them. None of us can ever save himself; we are the instruments of one another's salvation, and only by the hope that we give to others do we lift ourselves out of the darkness into light."

About Me
My name is Hannah Clouse and I just celebrated my 19th birthday. I was born on January 1st 1991, and my twin sister Amanda was born on December 31st 1990. Yep, we were born on different days, different years and, incidentally, under a blue moon. Im a freshman in college and i have a 2 year old daughter. Predictably, my life is pretty stressful, and the way i like to cope is to lose myself in a good book. That sounds so cliche, but most cliche's are based in truth, right? Well, at least thats been true for most of my experience's. But I love books, especially fiction, and I greatly enjoy talking about them.
